Joel Osteen Under Fire For Allegedly Refusing to Help Hurricane Victims (Reaction)

Image
Hurricane Harvey which swept through the Houston area of America and took lives and displaced families has also placed Lakewood Church head pastor Joel Osteen at the center of a social media crisis. The 54 year old Preacher with the 'perpetual smile' came under fire when he refused to admit displaced persons into his facility which houses 54, 000 persons a week for services. Claims of being unable to do so due to flooding and counter claims of deception began to float through the social mediascape causing the author of Your Best Life Now   to trend on twitter and not in a good way. Even though the  latest reports  say the Church may finally be opening it's doors,  twitter is still not pleased. As one detractor states below It is fascinating to watch how the world (Christians included) pounces on a public figure after he makes a real (or imagined) mistake. The twitter mob was up early today ready to burn the Preacher at the stake,  citing him as a fraud, a false pr

Tasha Cobbs Feat. Nicki Minaj: Are Xtians Overreacting?

Image
When 'Break Every Chain' singer Tasha Cobbs Leonard announced that she would be releasing her new album and that it will feature secular artist Nicki Minaj a lot of holy eyebrows were raised.  Now after the songs release many are sceptical, some outright offended, and a handful even have conspiracy theories (Behold The Illuminati is Everywhere!) The song itself titled 'I'm Getting Ready' is more of the usual fare, the "No Frauds" rappers feature though has made it something of an anomaly. But let's not get into the fact that Fred Hammond featured Snoop Dogg, Lecrae featured Ty Dollar Sign and on and on (so it's no surprise really, these Christian /Secular features.) Let's talk about how insecure Christians make themselves look when they communicate the fear that the secular will taint or overwhelm the gospel. Why can't it be the other way around? In the Old Testament God forbade the Israelites from living among and co-existing

CAMP NOU: A Million Voices, One Truth

Image
There is a popular casting crown song with titled 'the voice of truth.' The song is a soft rock gospel song that tells the listeners the troubles that surround them, the voices that will seek to gain godlike authority in their heads and which voice to believe and listen to. Life is not a bed of roses, some will say, others will say it is a world filled with ups and downs, I agree, partially. The reality of your life is dependent on the voices that gain power in your head. The voices in the world are those silent, sometimes loud words that echo in our hearts, our heads and on some other days our ears. Life is like a football pitch and we are the players. In a football pitch, when one teams is dueling against another, the ball moving swiftly from one player to the other, sweat dripping from bodies, feet running, muscles straining, their minds trying very hard to keep up, to win, there are lots of voices in and around the stadium that might either buoy the players to better

Christian Rapper Lecrae Set to Perform Alongside Big Sean and 2Chains

Image
They rappin in a bubble can't nobody see they face' rapped Lecrae in 2015 on former label mate KB's single 'Sideways'. Now two years later its safe to say that the rappers bubble has gone pop as the 'Christian who raps' is set to perform alongside mainstream artistes like Big Sean, 2Chains, Steve Aoki and Gucci Mane at this year's Ubahn festival. The event which is set to take place in a tunnel underground and feature live artwork installations, skateboarding demonstrations, vendors and other interactive delights, is scheduled for September 8 and 9, not long before Lecraes #ATWT tour kicks off. The event is no doubt a landmark for the artiste who has long since shown his desire to break out of the restrictive label of being a 'Christian rapper'. While this will certainly raise a number of eyebrows among die hard Christian fans of his, it is undeniable that Lecras is taking the message where it is most needed. After all, no one lights a ca

NF Releases New Track 'Green Lights'

Image
"Three records,  three years I don't like to waste time. " the impassioned rapper spits on his new track "Green Lights." Indeed it's only been two weeks since Nate released the song "Outro" also presumably off his forthcoming album. Whilst "Outro" followed in the style of "Intro 2" and "Intro" before it,  chronicling where NF is at in his life at a given time. "Green Lights" is a song about confidence,  feeling as though there is nothing that stands in one's way. The track is certainly catchy and is classic NF. However with "Motivated" and "Statement" already under his belt and dealing with almost the same subject matter, this might prove to be three songs in three years-three much. Check out the video here  NF-Green Lights (Video)

Christian Leaders on The White Supremacists March

Image
Photo by Steve Helber/ AP The United States of America has had a rough couple of days. Things she would rather not think about and all together deny marched through the streets of Charlottesville, Virginia on Saturday the 12th of August. White supremacist are as the name suggest those who believe in the superiority of the Caucasian over other races. It's political implications are that since White is better, White should rule a la slave trade and black subjugation. In recent history the movement was considered dead or ailing, until it marched hundreds of men strong chanting 'Unite the right.' Being the light of the world, some Christian leaders have spoken out against this uprising, whilst some have (surprisingly?) kept mum. Senior Pastor of The Potters House TD Jake's appears not to be living in the same America where this incident took place. He is yet to publicly comment on the issue, but it is expected that when pressed for his opinion it would certainly

ANDY MINEO AND WORDSPLAYED 'MAGIC AND BIRD' Album Review

Image
You wake up one morning and see Andy Mine and Wordsplayed holding a basketball and looking goofy. You cop the album Magic and Bird, listen and realize that you've never had it this good before. The album represents the next phase of Christian Hip Hop, a direction it has been headed towards since Lecrae said that he's not a Christian rapper, he's a Christian who raps. The album isn't trying to fit into any religious box, it is pure unapologetic art. On 'JUDO' Andy raps that "I know you know you mad.." whilst Wordsplayed takes it a notch higher with "Behave, behave, boy don't you know that you black? Okay, I will, when white Jesus come back!" 'LEGENDS' sees the duo make a stake in the rap game that no Christian rapper has dared since NF did on the track 'Statement' off his Therapy Session album released last year. They're taken themselves seriously as rappers and expect the industry to do the same, with content

The Top 5 Most Ridiculous Love Songs On Your Playlist

Image
There used to be a time when we lay sprawled like a dismantled jig saw puzzle on our beds, listening to Inconsolable by Backstreet Boys and painting the bloody entrails of a broken teenage relationship on our white ceiling. Back in those days there were the love songs and there were the break up songs. These days, as the world spirals further into a nebulous nothingness, love songs are only break up songs in disguise. A number of them still grasp the patience, kindness, peace, gentleness (a la Timberlakes "Mirrors") but most seem to have forgotten that loves a good thing, that is great, beautiful and pure. Of such, here are are the most ridiculous . 5. Beyonce- Poison Halo was good, Broken Hearted Girl was fair, this,  well,  let the lyrics speak for themselves. I suppose there are less romantic ways to commit suicide, but you know what's better than dying, living to love some more,  and again and again. 4. Bruno Mars- Grenade I bet you can't guess

Propagandas 'Crooked' Album Review

Image
On the Christian Hip Hop scene there exists three lanes to drive on occupied by three distinct leaders. The first is the immediately obvious God-music (rap equivalent of worship) artistes led by Da' T. R. U. T. H with Eshon Burgundy up and coming, the other extreme is NF (the whiny, venting, entirely sensual but safe rapper) and the middle lane occupied by Lecrae who vacillates between introspection, social consciousness and exegesis of the word of God. But in steps Propaganda with his new offering 'Crooked', in a self-made lane all by himself. This album makes you uncomfortable because you don't know where to put it. You find lines like 'Go to schools named after the Klan master' and ' Man can show pride but only God can give purpose' on the same song- "Crooked Ways" and you realize, oh yeah, this is crooked. Best line n this track? -'The strength of your whole team is crumpled with one meme', that's the kind of punchline th

BACKSLIDERS: How Xtians Do The Moonwalk

Image
Now almost everyone’s a smooth criminal. It may not be immediately obvious, but somewhere between that Israeli genuineness is a Jacob scheming on how to get you to trade your birthright for some porridge. We constantly let sin rock our world, despite Christ asking sin to beat it on the cross of Calvary. We are all of us Billy’s looking for Jeans to be our lovers, but when the fruits of such amoral affairs come to light, we lament that the kid is not our son. And round and round we go because its human nature, the way the flesh makes us feel, turning us on, knocking us off our feet rocking our world and having us talking to the man in the mirror asking him to change his ways because we’re so darn guilty, but we’ll deal with all of that on another day. What we’re going to be talking about today is why Paul in his letters addresses the members of the churches his writing to as saints, only to later put them on blast for being Israeli and yet committing some Jacob styled sins. Why ar

Hillsong United 'Wonder' Track by Track Review

Image
Hillsong United seems to have been around forever, but their new album Wonder is filled with all the invigoration and excitement of a first outing. The album released on the 9th of June 2017 (Yes this reviews a bit late, but better late than much later) makes you wonder why it was necessary to create the Hillsong variation Young and Free to cater to a younger audience, when Hillsong United still has the verve of teenagers (in a good way) . Wonder kicks-off with the title track 'Wonder', at first it sounds like you've heard this before, the atmospheric instrumental gives you the vibe of Zion, but the lyrics here cover some new territory for worship songs inviting you to see God's greatness in all the world. "I see the world in light I see the world in wonder I see the world in life Bursting in living colour I see the world Your way And I'm walking in the light" The following track Shadow Step continues the theme of finding God in the cos

How Demons Are Made

Image
Contrary to what most people believe, it seldom starts with ‘hello’. At a party in Austin’s apartment, soft music plays in the background, it’s not your usual 23 year old turn up. The light is dim but not too dim that you can’t see a few feet ahead of you. Some of the drinks are alcoholic but not too alcoholic that you can’t walk straight-no one’s going to be drinking that much anyway, because the guests are all more or less Christian. So are you, and so is she, and she smiles slightly when she notices you’re approaching her, she’s drinking a can of Malt, her guard isn’t entirely up because she’s comfortable. You strike up a conversation, and maybe it was a ‘hey’ or ‘how do you like the party’, you can’t remember, but you’re certain, it wasn’t ‘hello’. Months-a few choice texts, in the nick of time calls, and three splendid outings later- you two realize you enjoy each other’s company more than most others. You hold hands, are able to unlock old bitter memories and invite each ot

Mayweather v. Pacquiao: A Battle Of Principles

Image
Sometime in the not too distant past, something happened that got those of us not in the least invested in boxing curious. There was to be a match of epic proportions between a Mayweather and a Pacquiao. In the weeks and days leading up to the event there were two general notions of the two. Mayweather dodges and plays a defensive game. Paquiao is stylistic, very well composed. If you saw the boxing match or just heard about it, then you knownit went a little like this. Ladies and gentlemen, it's the battle of gladiators! Standing in one corner, we have the reigning champion, this brother knows how to take a punch, weighing philosphical pounds and standing at six psychological feet tall it's -Self Control!! And in the other corner, it's a newbie whose actually been around for quite some time. Some call him a chicken the way he cops out on temptations . But this fella knows how to dodge, his is that Mayweather defensive game. Give it up for, Avoiding Temptation

Why I Will Never Be Christian

Image
What if I told you the word Christian was not a revelation ?  It wasn't . Your mantra, your go-to label, your safe little box that you tick on forms was no revelation of the disciples of Christ, it was in fact most likely coined by the unregenerated, carnal minds of the world. So what's the harm, it means Christ-like doesn't it?  Yes, the same way that I could tell my crush that her beauty is like a dove (singular similarity)  or my nemesis that he moves about like a roaring lion looking for whom to devour. In both these instances I am stating matter of factly that the one is not the other. My crush who is like a dove does not have wings, she cannot fly, doesn't have the brain of a bird and is not a specie of birds. My adversary is merely making pretenses, like a child after watching Lion King. But scripture reveals to us that it is closer to the truth to say that you are Christ than it is to say that you are Christlike. In Daniel, after Nebuchadnezzar thre

A BUHARI LEASE ON LIFE

Image
Have you ever tried to change? It’s a messy business, whether it’s changing a thousand naira note, or an impression, or a country. The promise of change is in itself rhetoric (powerful and persuasive speech). Just think about it, telling a close friend you’re going to change your great and flaring temper, or a parent that you’re going to change your disrespectful demeanor. You cannot promise change without an elevated language. No husband says “Okay darling, I’ve been cheating on you, but now I’m going to change.” No matter how genuine the intentions behind the statement, no emotionally bruised wife is going to believe it. But with the same intentions say “I realize that I haven’t been the man I ought to be, the man that you deserve. But I have found that I can’t live without you, and cannot live with you whilst subjecting you to such great pain. I love you, and I’ve decided to change.” Just like that the marriage is back on track, because for the language of change to work, it

LOVE AND ALL THINGS FAIRYTALE : SCARS#1

Image
SCAR:  Noun -  A permanent mark on the skin sometimes caused by the healing of a wound (English Dictionary- Offline). Figuratively- A permanent transformation caused by a hurt. Scars could be a result of a personal mistake or someone else's oversight. Sometimes, memories linger because they (scars) leave you with stories to tell. On my left hand is a little scar from an accident I had about a month ago as a result of someone else's mistake. I was in a "Keke" (Tricycle), lost in thoughts of somethings I had to sort out. Suddenly I was jolted back to reality by an abrupt turn made by the "Keke" driver. What I saw was a car almost hitting the tricycle from my side and the tricycle turning over while in motion as I heard the crushing sound of glass and iron. Thank God we all got out of the tricycle alive. However, the driver had a serious scratch on his left arm and was bleeding heavily. The lady who sat beside me had some se

Popcorn Soda and The Cinema of The Mind

We all have movies playing in our minds. Whether it be the Heartbreak Romance starring our Exes and featuring a Westlife soundtrack, or the Science Fiction of how we were genetically modified to look like our parents when we are in fact the offspring of some wealthy billionaires somewhere. A film is being produced constantly. Sometimes they are short films based on worry. With minimum budget and very poor storytelling we deliver to the silver screen of our soul a tale of how everything that can go wrong, will. But this capacity to imagine and meditate was not given to us for ill, now that we no longer have the Spirit of fear but of power love and sound mind, we ought to flip the script. So lights, camera, action, let’s go! All of the best directors (Nolan, Snyder, and Spielberg) are great because they have a vision. They don’t just throw a concoction together and expect a blockbuster to happen.  They know where they are going, do you? Jesus did. Knowing who He was, knowing

Subway Surf And Eternal Life

Image
For a moment there we were all running wild and free and forever, until we tripped or fell and some monster reared its ugly head and swallowed us up. That was Temple Run, an Android game whose popularity at the time seemed to know no end, and whose gaming potential did know no end. But then came along Subway Surf, more urban and relatable, a little kid being a little kid running away from some guy in a uniform at the subway, awesome. What does this have to do with anything? Well I was awaiting a vehicle the morning after the climax of the phenomenal Jam Summit 2017 at Balm of Gilead, trying to pass time playing a cracked and cheat empowered Subway Surf when it hit me, this is precisely what eternal life is like. The cheat made it so that I had unlimited lives in the game. I could get caught a thousand times, and save myself a thousand times because I had an unlimited supply of “keys”. In a similar way Jesus gave us a cheat in life when He gave us life and life more abundantl
