Tasha Cobbs Feat. Nicki Minaj: Are Xtians Overreacting?

When 'Break Every Chain' singer Tasha Cobbs Leonard announced that she would be releasing her new album and that it will feature secular artist Nicki Minaj a lot of holy eyebrows were raised.  Now after the songs release many are sceptical, some outright offended, and a handful even have conspiracy theories (Behold The Illuminati is Everywhere!)

The song itself titled 'I'm Getting Ready' is more of the usual fare, the "No Frauds" rappers feature though has made it something of an anomaly. But let's not get into the fact that Fred Hammond featured Snoop Dogg, Lecrae featured Ty Dollar Sign and on and on (so it's no surprise really, these Christian /Secular features.) Let's talk about how insecure Christians make themselves look when they communicate the fear that the secular will taint or overwhelm the gospel.

Why can't it be the other way around? In the Old Testament God forbade the Israelites from living among and co-existing with the 'Ites' for fear that the latter would negatively influence the former. However this is because while the Peruzites, Palestinians and so on and so forth had a well functioning spirit of Anti-Christ in them, the Israelites did not have a corresponding Spirit. But now we do, a greater Spirit, the Spirit that overcomes the world.

Then there's the question of what makes a song anointed. The content or the singer?  If it's content then the song scales the bar, if it's the musicians behind the music then Nicki's feature renders the song Spiritless right? Wrong.

Again in the Old Testament King Saul sent assassins after David. However, upon getting there scripture records that the Spirit overwhelmed the assassins and they started worshipping God. To say that the Spirit of God can't move through Nicki Minaj who has confessed to being a Christian is grossly underrating the power of God.

Finally let's deal with the conspiracy theorists. They allege that the word 'God' was used 10 times but there is no mention of 'Jesus'.

Okay, two of Tashas most popular songs 'Grace'  and 'Fill Me Up' do not mention the word Jesus.

**Spoilers Ahead**

This is a very rough estimate but 90% of the time 90% of the producers, sound engineers video makers and production crew on your favourite gospel singers track are not Christians. So if you're going to nitpick you might as well throw out 90% of the records you own. Tasha got Nicki to praise the Lord. If that isn't some kind of victory in and of itself, then I don't know what is.

But what about the baby Christians, what would they think? Baby Christians need to grow up, end of story. Besides, the reverse argument stands. If Tasha featuring Nicki can spur a couple of baby Christians to listen to Nicki, then Nicki on a Tasha song should cause a number of on the fence unbelievers to listen to Tasha. It's all a matter of swing votes ladies and gentlemen. Are the weakest links in our chain inferior to the weakest links in the world's chain?

I know you've got a couple of scriptures that seem like they don't line up with the above. Please share them in the comments, let's rightfully divide the Word together.

You can find out more about Tasha on her  website.

  1. Please heed the warning. Please don't think like the majority of others out there who think they can worship God the way THEY want. We HAVE to worship God in spirit and truth (John 4:24), the way HE wants. Let us not mix the profane and sacred in our lives and our worship. Let us not mix the worldly with the holy. Let us separate from the world and worship God with reverence and Godly fear, in accordance with His Word.

God (Jesus) called us out of Darkness into His Marvelous Light. These are indeed the Last days folks and the great falling away from the church is coming causing even the very elect to be deceived. Let us not forget that we came to Christ with a repentive and sorrowful heart because we were dying and had a need for a Savior in our lives and we are not to practice sin any longer, but to turn away from those wicked ways and we do not have to comprimise for anyone to be drawn into the Faith do not be deceived here who is drawing who? We are responsible to uphold a greater standard and are responsible for other's that are drawn away because those they are looking up to has led them astray.

    1. Good sir. I understand your concern, I really do. I ask you to pay attention. God says we must worship Him in Spirit and in Truth. What is that Spirit? What is that Truth? Is it our Spirit? Is it our good works? Are we like the Levites and Priests of old who must 'in our own effort and of our flesh' wash ourselves clean and offer absolution offerings before we can worship God?

Not so my brother. The blood has washed us clean, Christ has empowered us to reach the Father once more. This is the good news. Ephesians 2 's 8. That we are saved by grace through faith and not by works lest any man should boast.

This is of course not an excuse for the worshipper to be irresponsible. But there is only one criteria needed to Worship God, and that is believing Jesus.

The Spirit of Anti-Christ has only one distinctive characteristic. It is not that it smokes, or commits sin. It is that it does not confess Christ as God in the flesh. Can a prodigal son or daughter not worship a father, even though she has wronged him?

I understand the concern with those weak in faith. But I believe the power that worketh in us, even the weak in faith, is far greater than the power that works in the world.

  2. In Revelation 18 it says that "Babylon" has fallen. And in Revelation 17 it says that Babylon has "daughters" (harlots). Babylon is the "mother" church (the Roman Catholic Church) which has fallen, and the daughters are those churches (Protestant Churches) who came from Babylon the Great and held on to the errors and traditions of Babylon. So Babylon and her daughters encompasses the fallen churches of the world. And the reason they are "fallen" is that they have rejected the plain, simple truth of God's Word in favour of "worshipping" God their OWN WAY! Are you within Babylon? God is calling you to come out of Babylon.

    1. Again I state. There is only one characteristic of the Anti-Christ Spirit. It has never and will never confess that Christ is God in the flesh.

I say that Christ is God in the flesh. So I am certainly not of Babylon.

My dear friend. There is only ONE TRUTH, ONE WAY and ONE LIFE. It is not good acts. It is not the way you write your music, it is not who you feature. It is Christ.

Christ is the center. Christ is everything.

I will have you know that the Roman Catholic Church or even most Protestants, will never permit a worshipper to do what Tasha has done. That is the way of religion. The view you are expressing is very consistent with the Babylon you are denouncing.

Christ my dear friend, is the good Physician who came not for the whole, but for the sick. In case you don't know, the only thing that separates me and you from Nicki Minaj, is Christ. All our good acts and deeds don't qualify us for worship. Christ does. But Nicki Minaj believes in Christ as well. So you see? The standards you are judging her by, we fail as well, for all have sinned and fallen short of the Glory of God. Only Christ redeems us. Christ is all the qualification we need.
