Can You Really Make It As Faze Alone?

THERE'S A BOY BAND CURSE! Almost every decade the world is graced with a new Boy Band (Boy Band refers to a group of males singing and performing together as a group i.e Bois II Men). These boys come out, they’re young, energetic and vibrant and the world goes crazy. Guys wanna be em, and the girls all wanna be with em. But almost immediately after they taste fame and fortune, problems begin to abound; fights; people going solo, and before you know it, the boy band is dissolved. And almost always, only one person in that Boy Band makes it afterwards. It happened to Westlife (nobody made it afterwards though), Backstreet Boys (Nobody made it afterwards though), Nsync (You don’t know em, but they gave you Justin Timberlake) and now One Direction (call it a hiatus, call it whatever, history suggests otherwise).

Last man standing

And you all thought it would be Harry Styles, heh.

It’s such a powerful curse, that its even in effect here in Africa, just look at Plantashun Boiz, formerly made up of Black Face, Faze and 2 Face, now defunct and with only 2Face to show for it. Every time I think about it, it reminds of the non-church Going Christians, whom I am hereby coining as Shall Not Obey Believers aka SNOB, for their refusal to adhere to the “thou shall not forsake the gathering of the brethren” doctrine of Hebrews 10 vs 25. All of them, with their self-righteous nose in the air, condemning the mediocrity of the church, saying they don’t need a building to serve God. News flash, it’s not the building, it’s the people. How do you intend to be a part of the body of Christ, when you’re not a part of the Body of Christ?

From the boy band analogy we see that statistically speaking, we are more likely to make it together, than we are going solo. More talents, less pressure, less everything. So if you’re thinking you can make it as Faze alone, think again. I love the guy, I think he had the most dynamic voice of the lot, but his solo career lasted for like, what, 12 months? Then it was bye bye Originality and hello the Unstoppable 2Baba (why am I making so many secular music references? I’ll answer that question later.) You most likely cannot make it as Faze alone, and why should you? Man wasn’t made to be a loner, Melancholics like myself are prone to that, but sooner or later you’re going to realize there are a few spots on your back when it itches that your own hands can’t reach. Which brings me to “4 years Don waka….”

STYL PLUS!

These guys could sing! Now I am only speaking of them within the confines of the 4 years that they were together. Now they’re broken up, but within those four years, they were unbreakable! Un-shifit-able, filled with so much Zeal! Anywhere you go their tune dey! It’s not that they were good, it’s that they were good together. Shifi had that masterful, soulful voice, Tunde had the modern pop energy, and Zeal balanced it all out. That’s how the body of Christ is supposed to be, pure harmony! Everybody doing what they can do best and bringing it together to make it better. So be like Styl Plus, I beseech you, please go to church. Ecclesiastes 4 vs 9-12.
